Manchester City’s domestic season ended on Sunday with a 5-0 goal from Norwich, connected to the Championship.
The Sky Blues now have their eyes on the European level as they prepare for their Champions League crash moment with Real Madrid.
Man City will face Etihad with a 2-1 lead, thanks to the defeated moves of Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne at the Bernabeu.
But with Real undefeated since the resumption of football last month, and certainly brimming with confidence after winning the La Liga title, they are in a position to provide a difficult check to Pep Guardiola and company.
It should also be noted that Zinedine Zidane has won the Champions League three times with the Real, with Los Blancos also holding the record for top Champions League titles.
City, meanwhile, has never gone past the semi-finals of the festival and, with Guardiola, has yet to triumph in the quarter-finals.
Manchester City’s head of the city will also face Key Real Madrid striker Sergio Aguero, who is lately offside from a knee injury.
However, Ilkay Gundogan is too concerned about his team’s chances without Aguero.
Speaking to Manchester City’s official online website on Wednesday, the German admitted that while it is disappointing not to call his prolific hitman, it is certain that citizens can cope:
“It’s disappointing not to have Sergio available.
“We wish him a speedy recovery and that we locate him as soon as possible, as he is a great player to us.”
“We have to deal with injuries, as we have done this season, with Aymeric [Laporte] available. We have to do the same now with Sergio’s situation. I’m sure we can do it.
“Other players will have to step forward. We have Gabby [Jesus], who is a player, but we also have other players who can play as a fake nine.
“I’m sure we’ll be able to deal with that, but of course we’ll miss him.”
