Donny van de Beek says he is “proud” to play for Ajax and will not complain if he does not leave the club despite interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Ajax coach Edwin van der Sar revealed in June that Van de Beek was a target for United and Madrid after another impressive crusade for the Dutch giants.
However, the Dutch foreigner admits that the club’s departure this year is due to the “disorderly” scenario caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Van de Beek, who has two years to run his contract with Ajax, insists he has no challenge to stay at Johan Cruijff ArenA during the season.
“It’s very confusing, at least very confusing in terms of transfers,” he told Fox Sports after Ajax’s 5-1 win in a pre-season friendly against Utrecht on Thursday.
“There’s nothing certain yet. I’m still an Ajax player and I’m proud to be there.
“If it hadn’t been for the coronavirus, it might have been someone else now. There’s no clarity now and we have to wait and see how it goes.
“I’m still here and after all those years, I’m still having a lot of fun. If I also play at Ajax next season, I still have a lot of fun. You may not hear me complain.”
The van de Beek Academy product spent five seasons in the Ajax first team, making almost two hundred appearances in all competitions.
