Real Sociedad manager Imanol Sheriff is confident that his appearance can secure a place in the Europa League next season on the final day of the 2019-20 campaign.
Real faces a brake this weekend as he heads to the Spanish capital to face Atletico Madrid.
Diego Simeone’s look has already secured his place in the 2020-21 Champions League, but Basque visitors want a victory at Wanda Metropolitano to end in the seven most sensible.
A defeat could cause Granada or Valencia to review them dramatically, with Diego Martínez’s team in an impressive recent form.
The Society is ranked 4th through 6th in La Liga after the season restart, but Sheriff is sure of one last push from his players tomorrow.
“The return was terrible for us. We only stayed 3 days in 2020 outside European places,” he said in an interview with Marca.
“We deserve to qualify for Europe, but if we don’t, it will be for some results.
“The purpose is to finish fifth or sixth, but it may be seventh.
“We are determined to win this match, and if we give everything we can, I think we can get the result we need.”
A real victory would seal the return to European football next season, but if he loses in Madrid, a victory from Granada or Valencia would lose them.
However, a tie opposed to Simeone’s appearance would complicate the issues for all parties involved, but that is enough, as they have a higher head-to-head record against Los Che and a greater difference in purpose than Granada.
