Frank Lampard looks at the prospect of Timo Werner’s affair with Hakim Ziyech after the summer signings made their Chelsea debut on Saturday.
Neither did Werner and Ziyech for the Blues in the 1–1 draw against Brighton against more than 2500 enthusiasts at Amex Stadium, with Werner taking just 4 minutes to get the adjustment sheet.
Werner and Ziyech are just two of Lampard’s new additions this summer, with Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Malang Sarr also moving to Stamford Bridge – while a deal for Kai Havertz looks close to being completed.
There will be high expectations of Lampard and Chelsea after a massive summer spending, however, the Blues boss is excited about the features he will have as he looks to build on the club’s 4 most sensible last season.
“I think Timo was smart and brilliant,” Lampard told the club’s website. “He was given his purpose at the beginning of the game, he showed some of the qualities I know very well, so I’m very excited to have him on the team.
“I think his painting speed and everything in it is a wonderful start for him and Hakim Ziyech, some of his contributions, his passes and his quality titles were excellent.”
Ziyech left with an injury at the start of the moment, to which Lampard explained: “He has a small blow to the knee, a small turn that we will have to evaluate, not so bad, even in the performances.” or they were really good.”
Regarding Chelsea’s busy summer in the market, Lampard said: “We have an idea to try to add to improve, as you should do at a club of our level, and we know that has not been absolutely possible for us, and we knew the ban and all this talk, and it was important for me to try to improve the squad and with the players that we are bringing in.
“It feels that way, but we need to be careful of getting too far ahead of ourselves because we need to give time to players to come in and adapt, to the way I want us to play and to their team-mates, but I think the moves we are making our positive, so I am excited and then it is up to us to get our heads down and work very hard.”
