Chelsea’s new signing, Hakim Ziyech, insists that his body will meet the physical demands of the Premier League.

Ziyech joined Ajax for 38 million pounds and in the stands at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night to watch the Blues beat Norwich 1-0 in the most sensible race.

The 27-year-old began his education in Cobham this week and says he is looking ahead to start the next season.

Critics have questioned whether Ziyech’s light body was fit for the rigors of English football, but the Moroccan alien is sure he will face it.

Speaking to the club’s official online website during his first interview as a Chelsea player, Ziyech said: “I’ve been told that the Premier League is a tough competition. I know it is. They said physically that I’m not in a position and stuff like that.

“But players have the same structure as me, and football is playing with their heads, being wise and creating spaces. It’s in the little things.

“It means a lot to be here. When I was young, you have to play in a big club. When I was young, the players who played here, it was a great club, so I’m very happy.

“When I was on the youth team at Heerenveen and [Didier] Drogba there, [Frank] Lampard, [John] Terry, all those wonderful games. Now, gambling here means a lot to me.

“I can’t wait to play here and I’m excited. I have waited 4 or five months for this moment and it is in spite of everything here and I will do my best to make everyone happy.
