The latest word stemming from Spain today suggests that Quique Setien may be removed from his post as Barcelona manager before the club’s upcoming Champions League meeting with Napoli.
Last night saw a new champion of Spain officially crowned.
In the penultimate gameweek of the La Liga season, Real Madrid welcomed Villarreal to the capital, whilst Barcelona faced off with Osasuna at the Camp Nou.
Ahead of their respective outings, Zinedine Zidane’s Blancos held the advantage, aware that one more victory would see them bring the club’s 3-year wait for supremacy in Spain to an end.
And, when all was said and done, this is precisely what Real managed.
A brace courtesy of the superb Karim Benzema guided Los Merengues to a 2-1 win, bringing to an end Barca’s reign as La Liga champions.

Making the Blaugrana’s evening all the more miserable, meanwhile, was the fact that they actually also fell to defeat versus Osasuna.
Despite some typical Lionel Messi brilliance, Roberto Torres’ injury-time strike eventually saw the Catalans give up their title with a whimper.
Barcelona’s at-times spectacular collapse since the return of Spanish football last month is widely expected to cost Quique Setien his place on the club’s bench.
While it was previously assumed that such a change would come following the season’s conclusion, though, the latest speculation in the Spanish media has hinted that the former Real Betis boss may not even be trusted to see out Barca’s European endeavours next month.
The news comes courtesy of the reliable Alfredo Martinez.
The Onda Cero representative claims that contact between Blaugrana president Josep Maria Bartomeu and Setien was made earlier today.
During the conversation between the pair, the latter’s position on the Camp Nou bench was brought into question.
And, though a definitive decision was not forthcoming, significantly, Martinez adds that it is ‘increasingly possible’ that Setien will not be the man to lead Barcelona into the 2nd-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Italian giants Napoli on August 8th.
Hoy toma de contacto Bartomeu-Setién. No parece que se vaya a tomar la decisión definitiva hoy pero cada vez es más posible que Setién ya no dirija la equipo ante el Nápoles . Esperaremos acontecimientos
