INDIANAPOLIS – It’s a probability, but not a certainty, that Indianapolis will once again be the Big Ten football championship game.
The convention announced Wednesday that the football match would begin from October 23-24 and end with the championship on December 19, a day before the announcement of the school football playoffs.
The Big Ten had cancelled last fall season due to the pandemic, but they changed course, saying they would continue with new medical protocols. The league game in the past had been scheduled for December 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Indy has been the one in the last nine games of the Big Ten championship.
In a statement, organizer Indiana Sports Corp. said:
“Now that the Big Ten Conference has a normal season start date, we’re running hand in hand with them on the option of a championship game in Indy and the most productive date to do so. “
He refused to comment more.
The Colts will face the Houston Texans in an NFL game on December 19 or 20 at Lucas Oil, but the stadium has already been used for college and professional games several days in a row, plus rotations will be to manage if there are few or none. spectators allowed.
The Big Ten announced that in addition to the winners of the East and West divisions accumulated for a championship, the No. 2, 3, etc. , would be paired for a ninth game. Given the winter weather in mid-December, some (or all) of those six convention games can be played at Lucas Oil on championship weekend.
