KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – Inter Milan dominated, but was for a moment in a successive Champions League draw, finishing 0-0 at Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.
The nerazzurri hit the bar twice and were also rejected by a very good goalkeeper from Anatoliy Trubin of Shakhtar.
Shakhtar remain the wiser of Group B after their wonderful 3-2 win at Real Madrid last week. He is a forward two editions of Inter and three more than Borussia Monchengladbach, who will later host Madrid.
Inter tied at the last minute to tie Gladbach home in their first match, but beat Shakhtar 5-0 in August in the Europa League semi-finals.
Shakhtar welcomed several of the players who had missed the victory in Madrid for being away after a coronavirus outbreak in the team, however, lost striker Dentinho early with a challenge in the ham- tendon and was replaced by Taison.
Inter nearly overtaken moments later, Trubin did so to top off Romelu Lukaku’s effort and the ball went to Inter’s striker who reduced him to Nicoli Barella, but his header went over the crossbar.
Trubin did even better in a time before full time with a sensational stop from the tip of his fingers to push Lukaku’s free kick over the crossbar.
Inter kept pushing after the break and came out of the deadlock early in the middle of the moment. Trubín blocked an effort from Marcelo Brozovic and Lautaro Martínez rebounded incredibly from close range.
