Major League Soccer Inter Miami has canceled its mini-postseason tour of China.
The vacation was canceled just 3 days before the team’s departure.
Lionel Messi and his teammates travelled to the Far East to play two high-profile friendlies against Chinese Super League clubs Qingdao Hainiu and Chengdu Rongcheng on November 5 and 8.
The abrupt cancellation of both matches was attributed to “bureaucratic and publicity problems. “
The first announcement of this turn of events came from the hand of the prominent Argentine journalist Gastón Edul.
Miami expressed its sadness in an official statement, stating (via its official website): “Tour promoter NSN has informed Inter Miami of the cancellation of its excursion to China due to unforeseen cases in China.
“The club will continue to explore long-term opportunities with NSN to achieve this goal. “
Following the cancellation of the tour, the Fort Lauderdale-based MLS team will now be in the United States.
The move is a major setback for Chinese football enthusiasts who eagerly awaited Messi’s arrival, following his eighth Ballon d’Or victory.
Messi joined Miami from Ligue 1 champions France Saint-Germain over the summer after winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with Argentina.
This fortunate move is remarkable good fortune for the franchise owned by David Beckham. Messi has enjoyed a remarkable start to his Miami career, scoring 11 goals in his first half of the season.
Despite the sadness of the canceled tour, Miami enthusiasts can still look forward to seeing Messi and his teammates in action at home as they prepare for the upcoming season.
