Inter Milan’s interest in signing Zenit’s Russian defender Robert Renan is fading.
This is reported in today’s print edition of the Roman newspaper Corriere dello Sport, FCInterNews. T<
Hey, he reports that the Nerazzurri are putting the brakes on their quest due to the more likely charge of signing the 20-year-old.
Zenit defender Renan is one of the players who has been on Inter’s imaginable transfer list for the past three.
The Nerazzurri were going to sign Hellas Verona defender Juan Cabal.
However, the Colombian went to Juventus.
Inter are therefore once again in their search for a defensive signing.
However, the profile to which they belong remains the same. Inter need to bring in a player who can update Alessandro Bastoni on the left of the three defenders.
This would allow Carlos Augusto to play exclusively as a full-back, replacing Tajon Buchanan. Last season, the Brazilian also played the last three.
At just twenty years old, Renan would have compatibility with the age profile sought through Inter’s owners, Oaktree Capital.
The Nerazzurri owners would prefer to sign a young player with prospects of expansion and improvement, as well as resale value, than opt for a more experienced player as a short-term option.
In addition, the Brazilian left-footer is a player that Inter know has the right profile to play at their back.
Renan arrived at Zenit St. Petersburg from Corinthians last summer. However, lately he has been on loan at Internacional in his home team Brazil.
Renan has a clause in his contract with Zenit worth 26 million euros.
However, this is more than Inter intend to pay for a left-back.
The Russian club could accept a payment close to 20 million euros to sell the Brazilian.
But even then, it would be outside what the Nerazzurri are worth.
As things stand, the payoff is that Inter would struggle to reach a payment agreement with Zenit and will most likely move on to other targets at the back.
