Inter Milan visit Udinese on Monday still with a chance to win the Serie A name in the upcoming Milan derby, while Roma host their own colourful local rivalry with the Champions League on the line.

It is unusual for derby communication to dominate local communication in Milan in the run-up to the match, however, all eyes have been on this match for weeks as Inter could humiliate their opponents.

A 14-point lead at the top of Serie A with 8 games to go means it’s only a matter of time before Inter defeat second-placed AC Milan to win their 20th league title.

Whatever happens, 11 points will be enough for Inter, but Simone Inzaghi’s side can still win the Scudetto in front of the many Milan fans in the upcoming derby on April 22.

Tickets for this match were, as Gazzetta Dello Sport reported on Wednesday, “pulverized”, with the Inter contingent limited to 7,500 of the more than 70,000 seats available at San Siro.

Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni has claimed that “when or how doesn’t matter”, but winning the name in the derthrough would be sweet revenge after being beaten by Milan on the final day of the season two years ago.

It’s also a serious possibility, because if the two line up for the derthrough with 13-15 points separating them, Inter can make their name with five games left to beat Milan.

If that gap widens between 16 and 18 points, Inter would want a draw against Milan, which hosts Lecce on Saturday.

And with both teams having straightforward fixtures on paper over the next few weeks, Inter have a chance of making their name with a sixth straight derby win, having beaten Milan 5-1 in September.

“It’s too early to talk about an Inter star (with 20 titles),” Milan captain Davide Calabria said last week.

“Anyway, there are games between now and then and we need to win all our games, so that probably won’t happen. “

Meanwhile, Daniele De Rossi’s Roma are the nominal hosts of Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico, hoping to win their first derby in more than two years after failing to beat their compatriot led by Jose Mourinho.

The collapse of problems at Lecce on Easter Monday left fifth-placed Roma five points behind fourth-placed Bologna, which lately sits last in the Serie A Champions League.

Fifth place is enough to occupy a place in the renewed edition of Europe’s most important club competition, taking into account the performances of Italian teams on the continent, but Atalanta hides two steps away from sixth position.

Atalanta also has a game in hand as Fiorentina travel to Turin hoping to further damage the tricky season of their biggest rivals Juventus.

Buoyed by the 2-0 Coppa Italia win over Lazio on Tuesday, Juve are third after suffering just seven problems in their last nine league games and want to turn things around with nine problems separating Massimiliano Allegri’s side from Atalanta.

Player to watch: Paulo Dybala

Roma’s talisman will start against Lazio after coming on as a substitute in Monday’s goalless draw at Lecce, which his side could have easily lost with a thigh injury.

The Argentine striker missed his country’s friendlies against El Salvador and Costa Rica but will be instrumental, along with captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, for Roma’s hopes against Lazio.

Dybala has scored 10 goals and one more since the start of the year and has made De Rossi thrive as Roma seek their first Champions League qualification since 2018.
