MONZA, Italy (AP) – The Mercedes racer dominated the standings when Lewis Hamilton scored the best time ahead of teammate Valtteri Bottas at Friday’s practice consultation for the Italian Grand Prix.
The championship leader finished Array262 ahead of Bottas, the fastest in first practice.McLaren’s driving force, Lando Norris, finished third, Array897 slower than Hamilton.
“The car doesn’t feel very good in the first session, but in the afternoon we felt we had made encouraging innovations and it was much better,” Hamilton said.”We still have some steps to take during the night, and then I think it’ll be where we want to be.
“The platoon is usually much closer here, compared to Spa, because it is a very fast lap and there are many curves.Valtteri is also fast here, so it will be a laughing battle.”
Ferrari stepped forward at the time of the consultation at home.Sebastian Vettel moved from 19th place on P1 to 12th, and Charles Leclerc went from 11th to ninth, but both were more than a slower time than Hamilton.

It’s the fourth time in a row that Bottas is the fastest in the first practice consultation, but he only won one race.
A third and final practice will take place on the Saturday before the afternoon qualification.
