Arsenal legend Tony Adams has delivered his verdict following the Gunners’ defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The Highbury icon, speaking to Premier League Productions, admitted that the Villans put in an “excellent performance” unlike a Gunners side who “score for fun”.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal won 1-0 against Unai Emery’s Villans at the start on Saturday at 5. 30pm.
Villa took the lead against Arsenal in the seventh minute, took to the pitch and received his fair praise from the start.
Leon Bailey got the better of Gabriel Magalhaes and burst into the box before squaring the ball for John McGinn.
The Villa captain skilfully took the ball and fired past David Raya to spark wild celebrations in the stands.
Arsenal struggled to at least repair parity, but could not get past a well-trained Villans defence.
The hosts had Diego Carlos to thank for two goal-line clearances, while a controversial VAR decision late on also kept the scoreline the same.
Kai Havertz’s equaliser was disallowed after referee Jarred Gillett judged the ball had grazed the midfielder’s hand just before he switched from close range.
Adams, speaking on Premier League Productions, focused on Villa’s victory instead of talking about the Gunners losing in controversial fashion.
“Villa Park is unbelievable,” Adams said, according to the Premier League’s online website (12/9/23, 7:40 p. m. m. ). ” I said Villa is the Arsenal of the Midlands.
“This blank sheet of paper deserves to be excited, facing its position against a team that scores for fun. Great defense, great screen in front of them, wonderful performance.
Villa will then face Zrinjski in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, while Arsenal will face PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday.
