Jack Sawyer announced Friday that he will play his senior football season in Pickerington, Ohio High School North. Sawyer enrolled early in the state of Ohio.
“Thank you for 3 wonderful years for Pickerington North,” Sawyer wrote in a Tweet. “See you soon in #BuckeyeNation.”
Then he made his decision.
“After lengthy discussions with my parents and coaches about the uncertainty of this senior football season and the likelihood of a school season in the spring, I will focus on education and preparing for my early enrollment in Ohio State,” Sawyer said.
Sawyer, a defensive wing of 6 feet 5 inches and 248 pounds, is the third prospectus overall in the national classification composed of 247sports.com. He is the ranked player in the 2021 Buckeyes recruiting class, which ranks No. 1 in the country.
Sawyer spent the off-season recovering from a torn medial collateral ligament in his knee that he suffered in a playoff game in November.
The Big Ten Conference announced this week that it will play football this fall and aims to play in the spring if the COVID-19 stage allows. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said he needs a resumption of football to begin in January.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association recently announced a plan for this year’s football season consisting of six regular-season games with all groups eligible for the playoffs. Gov. Mike DeWine is expected to announce Tuesday that fall sports can be practiced in the best schools.
Four other members of Ohio State recruiting elegance by 2021 – TreVeyon Henderson, Jordan Hancock, Sam Hart and Evan Pryor – will play as a senior because their seasons have been canceled or due to COVID-19 issues.
