Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund have agreed a deal ‘in principle’ for Jadon Sancho to return to the German club on loan.
The two clubs have been negotiating prior to the January transfer window opening, with United favouring a permanent deal for the winger. However, Dortmund themselves have been pursuing a temporary move, with both parties having now reached a point of agreement.
According to Sky Sports News, there is a willingness from all parties involved to now complete the deal. However, no timescale or deadline has been put in place with a number of details still to be finalised.
Dortmund were hoping that the 23-year-old Sancho would sign up for his current educational camp in a warm climate in Marbella. However, there is “no guarantee” that the documents will be signed and sealed before the end of this week, with the Bundesliga side returning to play at Darmstadt 98 on January 13.
The winger arrived at Old Trafford in a £73million move in the summer of 2021, but has spent much of the 2023-24 campaign exiled from the first team squad. That followed him publicly criticising Erik ten Hag on social media after the Dutch manager revealed he did not select him for the game at Arsenal became of poor application in training.
He posted: “Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue. I have conducted myself in training very well this week.”

Sancho would later erase the download, but the episode necessarily put an end to his senior involvement with the club. Amid reports that he refused to apologise for his actions, the former England player was banned from the first-team exercise and forced to train with Academy players.

However, in his first two seasons in Manchester he struggled to live up to his transfer fee. This despite being part of the team that ended a six-year drought by winning the Los Angeles Cup last season.
