Jadon Sancho takes aim at a thinly veiled criticism of Man United, who launches an emotional wish for luck

Jadon Sancho aimed an apparent dig at Manchester United after sealing a loan switch to former club Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho underwent a medical on Thursday before signing a loan deal with the Bundesliga giants until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old spent four seasons at Signal Iduna Park and scored 50 goals before joining Old Trafford in 2021.

But his time at Old Trafford has been hampered by injuries, personal problems and, most recently, a public feud with boss Erik ten Hag.

Sancho hasn’t played for United since August, but he smiles as he sealed his return to Germany and describes the Bundesliga club as “at home”.

“When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like coming home,” Sancho told Borussia Dortmund’s official website as he appeared delighted to end his Old Trafford nightmare.

“I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge. I can’t wait to see my teammates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”

Meanwhile, United released an emotional wish of the best for their £73million boy.

It read: “Manchester United striker Jadon Sancho has arrived on loan at former club Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old spent four seasons in the Bundesliga from 2017, registering 50 goals and 64 assists, before moving to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021.

“Sancho has made 82 Reds appearances so far, scoring 12 goals across all competitions and winning the Carabao Cup in 2023.

“Sancho will now return to Germany on a temporary basis as Borussia Dortmund prepare to resume their Bundesliga campaign after a winter break.

“The England international, who has made 23 international appearances, leaves with our wishes for the rest of the season. “

This resolution gives Sancho the opportunity to spend a well-deserved few minutes in an environment to which he is accustomed.

The winger will provide additional firepower as head coach Edin Terzic prepares a way to get Dortmund back into the title race ahead of the Bundesliga’s return this weekend after their winter break.

Dortmund leads Bayer Leverkusen by 15 points and has no margin for error if they have the ambition to close the gap.

A more pressing concern is the six-point gap to fourth-placed RB Leipzig in the race for Champions League qualification.

Sancho, who will wear the number 10 shirt, will be eligible for next month’s Champions League round of 16 with PSV Eindhoven.
