Jalen Hurts learns, remains the third quarterback of the Eagles

The Eagles used a second-round pick over quarterback Jalen Hurts, providing a false indication that he is part of his long-term calculations.

But in the present, he’s still Carson Wentz’s replacement.

Through Reuben Frank of NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com, Eagles coach Doug Pederson said Nate Sudfeld is lately on the depths table.

“Nate is our number 2 and obviously Jalen is still learning,” Pederson said. “He’s done smart things for us, he’s learning our formula and he’s another one of our young players who’s learning a little bit about the game. He’s got a little track and field, we saw him at training, but Nate came here and did everything we asked him to do from a replacement post.

“Every position is evaluated, Nate is lately our No. 2.”

Sudfeld played three games in his career, none last year, when they brought veteran Josh McCown to Wentz.

Hurts has shown promise in educational camp drills, but the lack of pre-season games means that all novices have a limited chance to participate in the game. For this reason, many coaches will opt for known products, even if the roof is lower.
