LONDON – Liverpool midfielder James Milner believes the club will have to get out again when the new season starts next month.
The 34-year-old clinched a third Premier League winner medal this year when Liverpool claimed the elite crown for the first time since 1990, adding to those they won with Manchester City in 2012 and 2014.
And Milner believes that retaining the crown is even more difficult than winning it.
“It is the beginning of an even more difficult season,” Milner told the Liverpool website.
“I think how smart we have been for the last two seasons has been amazing, but if we stick to the same point, it might not be smart enough.

“Everybody is pushing, everybody is and we have a purpose behind our backs and they’re going to need to take us down from the top. So it’s up to us to stay in the Array to keep pushing.”
Liverpool finished with 18 transparent editions of Manchester City to earn the name with seven games to go, completing 99 editions.
But Milner said it might not matter much when the new season kicks off on Sept. 12.
“Speaking is simple: you can say what you want, it’s about showing it on the field,” he said. “We have been able to do this in recent years and through setbacks and disappointments.
“Now is the time to start over and keep pushing and starving even when you’ve succeeded.”

Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United are the groups that will keep the name this century and Milner said Liverpool know how hard they want to work.
“You have earned the right to be called a champion, but then you have to convert it and start over,” he said.
“I think everyone is on target and in position to pass and I hope to have a smart race to keep it going.”
