Jan Vertonghen ‘accepts Benfica loose’ and is ready to sign a three-year contract after undergoing medical treatment

The veteran Belgian sewage treatment planter left the Spurs at the end of the final Premier League season.

And now he is about to arrive at Benfica with a doctor today, to the Portuguese newspaper Record.

The media posted a Vertonghen symbol on the cover with the name “Vertonghen sealed”.

Vertonghen has chosen to sign for the newly crowned Portuguese champions before moving on to Serie A and will sign a three-year contract.

The guru of the Italian play, Fabrizio Romano, showed the news of the 33-year-old’s move to the Estadio da Luz.

He tweeted: “Jan Vertonghen at Benfica is a deal.

“Three-year contract and contract to sign in a few hours. Here we are.”

Several clubs, Inter Milan, Seville and Manchester City, have expressed an interest in signing former Ajax players.

Vertonghen spent eight years in north London, recording 315 appearances, 14 and seven assists for the Spurs.

But life away from Tottenham will obviously take time to get used to the left foot defender.

The Spurs signed Pierre-Emile Hojberg of Southampton and gave him Vertonghen’s recently released number 5 blouse, anything that resembled the Belgian international.

In reaction to the official presentation of Hojberg’s T-shirt, Vertonghen tweeted: “How weird!!”

Vertonghen can join Benfica through former Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.

The prolific 33-year-old Uruguayan striker is also on his for hire after completing his time in the French capital when his contract expired in June.

It is believed that a two-year contract is almost over and would break the hopes of the Leeds championship winners to score the striker to lead his return to the Premier League.
