FOXBORO, Mass. – The New England Patriots have a rare day off on Saturday. But the next time they take the floor at Gillette Stadium, it looks like four quarterbacks are taking part.
Jarrett Stidham did not participate in any team training at Friday’s low padding consultation as he suffered a hip injury. But Patriots’ offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, said Friday in a convention call that Stidham deserves to be in a position to participate in Sunday’s consultation.
“The coach held him today, but I’m pretty sure he’ll be in a position to ride the next time we’re in a position to train.”
Cam Newton and Brian Hoyer shared representatives of field marshals in Stidham’s position. At some point, the Patriots will have to call a beginner quarterback and avoid slightly splitting the reps between two or 3 passers-by.
“As soon as the resolution is taken, it’s clearly an opportunity to start going in a quick direction,” McDaniels said.
“The faster those decisions are made, the more you’ll have to move in a safe direction. Right now, in the camp, the festival we see on our football team in each and every one of the offensive positions is what we’re looking for because I believe that’s what makes us all better. I wouldn’t use it for nothing.”
The Patriots will face the Miami Dolphins in Week 1 on September 13. It will be to see the Patriots’ unprecedented war against the QB before this game.
