Irish midfielder Jeff Hfinishrick has put an end to his long career scenario by signing a four-year contract with Newcastle United.
The former Burnley playr, who connected with moves with Italian giants AC Milan and Roma this summer, had been persistently connected to the Tyneside club in recent weeks and the news was shown on the club’s online page on Monday afternoon.
Dubliner, 28, joins the Magpies in a loose move after exhausting his contract with Burnley, where he has made 139 appearances in all competitions over the more than four seasons. The focus of his career with the Clarets qualified for the Europa League in 2017/18.
Early in the day, the 54-time player was decided by Stephen Kenny’s first Irish team for the upcoming League of Nations matches against Bulgaria and Finland.
Speaking to NUFC TV, Hendrick said: “It’s a huge club and the game over the years, going to the stadium is one of the stadiums to play, so I just need to play there.
“I’ve played over a hundred Premier League games but I need to go on and on with another team. It’s going to be another one for me, the demands with the biggest stadium, the crowd, the length of the club, so I have to take that on and keep pushing myself and looking at Array
“I can’t wait to be there, I can’t wait.”
Newcastle head coach Steve Bruce added: “Jeff is someone I’ve admired for a long time. I saw him when he was at the Derby and then he went to Burnley for a lot of money and he couldn’t, so I lost him. Then!
“He’s an experienced foreign footballer who can play all over the middle of the field, so we welcome him on board. It will be an advantage for us, on and off the field.
“He’s a wonderful professional, with his feet on the ground, and at 28, it’s a glorious moment to locate someone. This is the pinnacle of his career: he’s a compatible guy who has played 122 times in the Premier League for Burnley over the past 4 years, and I’m sure he’ll be a wonderful addition to the team.”
