Jericho high school flag football between the first season

While participation in Flag Football increases the status, the Jericho High School team enters its first season.

“Day after day, we need and continue expanding the game and continue expanding our team,” said Peter O’Malley, program coach.  

O’Malley, primary orchestra instructor in the district, has resulted in university football for children for 10 years. He said that when the sports director approached him about the flag football after the district parents promoted the program.

O’Malley said the school has been discussed from the start of the program for just over a year. He said that the emotion for the game has been greater in recent years after winning floor and popularity in the state.

The Athletic Association of the Public Secondary School of the State of New York called Fag Football an “emerging” game in 2021, according to its website. Then, in 2022, the agreement appointed Football of the Flag a secondary championship game, since the 2024 season.

When the 2025 season begins, Jericho High School threw his hat into the ring.

“There is a lot of emotion and a lot of buzz around the program, around the team, because it is new,” said O’Malley.  

He said that many women on the team had Alin a position that the flag football was heard through friends in other districts and that they were in a position to jump in the season.

“This is an exciting opportunity,” he said. “Not many students from the Higher School, in general, have the opportunity to start a program. “

O’Malley said the team began education on Monday, March 24. This season, the team participates in 16 games, faced with neighboring school districts such as Locust Valley, Roslyn, Bethpage and Cold Spring Harbor.

O’Malley said the team included 21 12 -year -old students. He said that, although some of the women transferred through other sports, such as softball, inventory and track, others visit sports programs for the first time.

“We are all excited and we all improve, day after day,” he said.

O’Malley said the team “started from the bases”, learning to align, catch a football ball and have a transfer. From there, the team has learned new games and routes. O’Malley said the team would compete two to 3 times a week, which gives them the opportunity every time.

“Every day we have added new things to our book,” he said.

He said that this year’s teams have the opportunity to “define the basic concepts of what this program will look at five, ten, fifteen years in fifteen years. “
