Jericho high school flag team enters the first season

While participation in Flag Football increases the status, the Jericho High School team enters its first season.

“Day after day, we need and continue expanding the game and continue expanding our team,” said Peter O’Malley, program coach.

O’Malley, primary orchestra instructor in the district, has resulted in university football for children for 10 years. He said that when the sports director approached him about the flag football after the district parents promoted the program.

O’Malley said the school has been discussed from the start of the program for just over a year. He said that the emotion for the game has been greater in recent years after winning floor and popularity in the state.

The Athletic Association of the Public Secondary School of the State of New York called Fag Football an “emerging” game in 2021, according to its website. Then, in 2022, the agreement called Flag Football is a set of superior state championship of the school, from the 2024 season.

As the 2025 season begins, Jericho High School threw his hat into the ring.

“There’s a lot of excitement and a lot of buzz around the show, around the team, because it’s new,” O’Malley said.

He said that many of the women in the team gave Alin a position that was heard about the football of the Friends Flag in other districts and were in a position to jump to the season.

“This is an exciting opportunity,” he said. “Not many students from the Higher School, in general, have the opportunity to start a program. “

O’Malley said the team began education on Monday, March 24. This season, the team is playing in 16 games, facing neighboring school districts such as Locust Valley, Roslyn, Bethpage and Cold Spring Harbor.

O’Malley said the team included 21 scholars in 12th grade. She said that while some of the women transferred from other sports, such as softball, lacrosse and track and field, others are seeking offers from sports programs for the first time.

“We are all excited and we are all improving, day by day,” he said.

O’Malley said the team “started from the bases”, learning to align, catch a football ball and have a transfer. From there, the team has learned new games and routes. O’Malley said the team would compete two to 3 times a week, which gives them the opportunity every time.

“Every day we add new to our playbook,” he said.

He said that women in this year’s team have the opportunity to “establish the basis of what this program will look at five, ten, fifteen years, fifteen years. “
