Canada’s men’s national soccer team announced Monday that former Red Bull Salzburg, RB Leipzig and Leeds United coach Jesse Marsch will take over as the club’s head coach with effect.
Marsch issued the following statement:
Marsch, who also spent time in Major League Soccer as head coach of the Montreal Impact and New York Red Bulls, will be under contract with Canada until July 2026, giving him the chance to lead the team through the 2024 Copa America and most likely into 2026. . World Cup.

The 50-year-old was reportedly competing for the USMNT’s training assignment over the summer, but was ultimately ignored, or got rid of his own festival call at the last minute, before Gregg Berhalter was controversially re-elected.
Marsch said in March on an episode of his Call it What You Want podcast with co-host Jimmy Conrad that he wasn’t interested in the USMNT concert.

He also told CBS Sports’ Kate Abdo in the past in November 2023 that he believes his long-term career will be at a European club (h/t Jacob Schneider of Goal. com):

“After extensive consultation with experts and a rigorous study process, I am very happy to make today’s announcement,” Kevin Blue, executive director and general secretary of Canada Soccer, said in a statement. “Jesse is a transformational leader who will move our Men’s National Team forward. Team, and Canadian football in general, as we enter the pinnacle era in the national history of our sport. “
Marsch’s recent leadership assignments have gone well. He lasted less than part of a season with RB Leipzig in the 2021-22 campaign, surviving just one year, and part of two seasons, with Leeds United between February 2022 and February 2023.
Since then, he has not played for any club or country again. Canada will be hoping to regain the momentum that has made them one of the most promising coaches in world football.
