Former Celtic striker-turned-pundit John Hartson has issued a warning to the club’s board ahead of a summer moving window.
Regardless of how the current season ends, the Hoops want to invest in quality this summer. There are too many players in the team and most of them are below average.
Whether they look to get the name back or keep it next season, Celtic want to recruit in the coming months, but the lack of consistency surrounding it is worrying.
Since the departures of Mark Lawell and Joe Dudgeon in early March, there has been no correspondence from the club about who will succeed the duo or whether there is a restructuring underway of the recruiting branch.
Celtic are constantly connected with the players, but the fans don’t know who identifies them.
Whoever is at the helm, however, Hartson believes the board wants to invest money so that manager Brendan Rodgers is satisfied and European progress can be achieved.
He said: [Glasgow Times] “It’s Celtic board backing Brendan this summer and I think they will.
“Everyone has noticed the disappointing Champions League campaign. And I think now they’ll pay attention to the fact that he’s talking about bringing genuine quality in January.
“I’m not saying they’re going to spend £10m on a player because that’s not how Celtic do it.
“But I’m still waiting for Brendan. They have to help him get to the second round of the Champions League because in the last few years it’s been horrible, really, really.
“Now there’s cash available and I actually think Brendan will get the one he needs because that’s all you hear him say. “
