John Lynch: It would be foolish to perceive it with George Kittle

Closed end George Kittle is on a new contract, but he said earlier this month that he wanted to be with his 49ers teammates to open the education camp.

Nothing seems to have replaced your point of view in the last few weeks. General manager John Lynch told KNBR on Tuesday that the team expects Kittle to show up in time for the camp despite the absence of a new deal. He didn’t much update the stage in the negotiations, but said there’s no explanation for why to think things won’t happen.

“George plans to come, ” said Lynch. “We exchanged ideas. It would be foolish not to perceive it. You ask for a calendar, I don’t have it. No updates. I don’t think of anything to discourage.”

Kittle is in the final year of his rookie contract and will earn just over $2.1 million. It’s a deal for a player who produces on point and, one way or another, Kittle will avoid being such in the 2021 season.

It’s hard to believe that this may not be solved before the season unless Kittle asks for between $17 million and $18 million a year…

It will be labeled the year.
