JOHN TERRY has revealed that he has already blocked the departure of a flight from Chelsea due to a heated dispute with Andre Villas-Boas over seats.
Villas-Boas arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2011 but stayed for eight months after enduring a complicated relationship with veteran players.
And maybe the writing was on the wall from the start, with Terry now talking about a clash with the coach in the preseason.
Chelsea were due to travel to Hong Kong when the Blues legend collided with the young top-class players while flying in economy class.
Terry said on Up Front with Simon Jordan: “I’m going to tell you a little story. I think we went to Hong Kong when he was his first coach.
“We got on the plane, we got on and I was sitting in fancy economy class on a 13-hour flight and they gave me Josh McEachran, Nathaniel Chalobah and a couple of other young players in first class.
“And that component of the AVB’s response: ‘No, no. No player is taller than me. We’re all the same. ‘
“So, I get on the plane and it turns out that Lamps goes to first elegance and I go back to first elegance.
“If you fly first, you come back with executive elegance or economy elegance, premium economy elegance, it doesn’t matter. But in the end, it wasn’t enough.
“So, I’m on the plane and I’m like, ‘No, no, we’re not going anywhere until those young players get back into the economy and the first-team players who built this club to where it is don’t get into the economy. ‘”Come back first. ‘
Champions League: 2011-12
“And we were on the plane and other people were getting on and off, AVB comes in and says, ‘What’s the problem?’
“I’m like, ‘Well, we’re not going anywhere until the young players move in. ‘And to be fair to the young players, they say, ‘JT, it’s awkward for us to come back. ‘
“And I’m like, ‘No, no, it’s not your decision, he’s got to own it as an AVB. ‘
“It’s one of his first things in front of everyone, in the end he turns around so that all the first team players fly first, the young players go back into the economy.
“That’s how it deserves to be, those young players are striving to be where we are and he tried to do something from day one and it failed right away because I promise you the plane wasn’t going to leave.
“And it would have happened to me, Frank and Didier. “
Terry, however, had the last word after winning the Champions League two months after Villas-Boas was sacked.
The former England captain ended his Chelsea side in 2017 as a five-time Premier League winner.
He joined Aston Villa for a year before hanging up his boots to a manager with whom he has since returned to Chelsea’s academy.
Meanwhile, AVB is said to play for Tottenham, Zenit St Petersburg, Shanghai SIPG and, at most, recently, Marseille in 2021.
He left Marseille in questionable fashion after criticising the club for signing Olivier Ntcham against his will.
Villas-Boas revealed in January his intention to run for the Porto presidency despite death threats following the announcement.
