Jordan Henderson has completed his move from Al-Ettifaq to Ajax, the Dutch club have confirmed.

It comes after the Saudi Pro League agreed to terminate the English midfielder’s contract.

Henderson, 33, joined Al-Ettifaq from Liverpool last summer but has to cut short his stay in the Middle East. He has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Amsterdam club.

A source at the Dutch club said: “Ajax have reached an agreement with Jordan Henderson regarding his move to Amsterdam.

“The free agent, a former Sunderland and Liverpool player, has signed a contract at Ajax for a duration of two and a half years, until June 30, 2026. “

The signing was confirmed after Henderson finalised terms and underwent a medical earlier on Thursday.

Ajax coach John van ‘t Schip said on the club’s website: “We were looking for an experienced midfielder with leadership qualities.

“Partly because of injuries within the team, we were looking for someone who could intervene right away. Jordan Henderson is that kind of player.

“His arrival means a huge enhancement for our squad. Both on and off the pitch, a football player of this calibre is important for our many young players.

“He’s a foreign player from England and he’s won the Champions League and many other awards with Liverpool. I’m glad you’re here.

When Ajax announced Henderson’s signing, Al-Ettifaq showed that they had reached an agreement on the remainder of the player’s contract.
