Jordan Henderson says Liverpool still don’t have a selection to review to turn Virgil van Dijk’s devastating injury into something positive for the rest of their season.
The Dutchman cannot hit the ball in 2020/21 after suffering an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee after a savage Challenge from Jordan Pickford in Saturday’s Merseyside derby.
Many temporarily canceled Liverpool’s chances of retaining the Premier League name or advancing to the final stages of the Champions League in the absence of Van Dijk, and Reds captain Henderson admits it’s a difficult shot, saying that the team is determined to respond firmly.
“Yes, it’s hard. It’s a blow to us. For him personally, of course. But for us as a team, a blow,” he told Liverpool’s website.
“I’m devastated by him. So it’s been a challenging day, I talked to him yesterday. And yes, it’s a difficult time, but that’s where you have to be there for others.
“I’ll be there as much as I can imagine for him, I’m sure the boys will do the same and his circle of relatives will certainly do, to help him in the adventure he will embark on. “
“But I’m sure it will come back more powerful. In the meantime, we have to do everything in our power to help us be more powerful and basically win as many matches as you can imagine for him, really. “
“It’s up to us as players to make sure that when he’s back and fit, we’re fighting for success and we’re going to fight for trophies.
“You have to use moments like this to be more powerful and even more combined than we already are. And use it as a positive thing somehow. I know it sounds ridiculous right now, but that’s what you have to check. out of doing.
“We will have to check to look long term and check to help us in the coming months for which Virgil will be absent.
“And stay through his appearance and be there for him whenever he desires us. But it’s a strong character, it’s strong mentally and it’s definitely going to get more powerful and it’s probably not going to be long. “
