Jordan Henderson admits that he was in a “very dark place” when Liverpool thought of promotion to Fulham just over a year after joining the club.
Liverpool captain, who brought his first league name in 30 years last summer, signed Sunderland in June 2011 on a 20 million pound contract for Array.
However, 14 months after his change, Liverpool promoted him to Fulham as part of an exchange with Clint Dempsey.
In statements to the Guardian, the Reds forward, in Southampton on Monday, live on Sky Sports, Henderson admits it was a particularly difficult time, but joy has made him a more powerful long-term user.
“It was a complicated moment that I don’t forget very clearly,” he said. “We were getting ready for a (Europa League qualifying) match opposed to the Heart at Anfield. We would meet regularly at the hotel and knock on my door. “saying the manager wanted to contact us. To be fair to Brendan Rodgers, it was actually just a conversation. It was an opportunity (to go to Fulham) that I didn’t need and didn’t like, I felt I had a lot to give.
“But I was in a very dark position at the time. It made us much more powerful and wiser later and without it, you never know what could have happened.
“So I value those moments because you want setbacks, you want adversity. You get up, and that makes you more powerful because you want to make other people wrong. Since that day, I had something in me.
“I needed to tell the coach that I would eventually enroll in his team. I’d probably do anything to be on your team, this football club, and I’d get them wrong. In the end, I did. “
