FC Barcelona and Jordi Alba have reached an agreement to terminate the player’s contract with the club one year before it expires at the end of the 2023/24 season.
FC Barcelona would like to express its gratitude to Alba for her professionalism, commitment and dedication, as well as her positive and friendly treatment of all the members of the Barça family, and wishes her the best of luck in the future. Barça will be a home for you, Jordi.
Jordi Alba, who took over the left-back of the pitch for more than a decade at Barca, leaves the club as the 3. er captain of the senior team, closing a brilliant career in which he won 19 major trophies. In 458 games (at that time of writing), he has scored 19 goals and provided 91 assists, a figure that is spectacular for the position in which he plays.
Jordi Alba left La Masia, his rise to good fortune was produced by a wake very different from the typical club.
After a few years in the formation of the young blaugrana, where at first he was more midfielder, and even forward, he went to play youth football in a smaller local club, the Unió Esportiva Cornellà.
Two years later, he recruited through Valencia, where he began to shine in the new left-back position, eventually winning international matches for Spain and even scoring a goal in the Euro 2012 final. Shortly after, he won the call-up to return to FC Barcelona after almost a decade of absence.
Alba is the archetype of the full-back and, although he has been a key component of Barca’s defence, he will be remembered more productively for his speed on the wing. He stood out for knowing exactly when and how to do it. When Jordi Alba starts zooming in on the opponent’s surface, you feel that anything is going to happen. His 91 assists attest to this.
For many years, the guy who regularly won those purpose passes was Leo Messi. The two had a strange relationship. Alba and the Argentine seemed to instinctively know what the other was about to do, occasionally creating resolutions out of thin air.
Unfortunately, it turns out that everything smart will have to come to an end and the curtain will fall on Jordi Alba’s tenure at Barça in a few weeks’ time. We wish him the best in his long career, whatever they may be.
