Jorginho ‘offered himself to Palmeiras’ and is ‘interested in leaving Arsenal in the January window’

Arsenal Jorginho is reportedly a target for Brazilian side Palmeiras.

The Italian midfielder’s contract at the Emirates is set to expire at the end of the season.

Jorginho joined Arsenal from a movement of 12 million pounds sterling in London from Chelsea in January 2023.

The 33 -year -old has been mainly a substitute this season, appearing in 10 games.

According to ESPN, Jorginho’s representatives have held “preliminary” talks with Palmeiras.

The Brazilian national team – in Sao Paulo – needs to bring Jorginho back to his native country.

But the report states that “no official discussions” have taken place between the two clubs.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta suggested earlier this month Arsenal are not looking to open contract negotiations with Jorginho until the summer.

The Gunners are currently six points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League title race.

Arteta said: “I don’t need to start having those [contract] conversations now.

“I want to have those conversations much later, because it has to be about what we want to do in the season.

“[Jorginho and Thomas Partey, out of contract], let’s know the intentions and then we will see what we can do.

“I am very, very happy with [Jorginho]. [He is] such a value in the squad.

“And I want to keep him as well with the right mind frame, because the most important part of the season is coming now.”

With his contract less than six months away, Jorginho is now free to negotiate with other clubs.

The Italian is recently taking his training badges while planing his career after football.

Report from ESPN The Gunners may be offering the midfielder a one-year extension, just as he won last season.

But Jorginho will likely be looking for a longer contract, and he has already expressed a preference to play in Italy before hanging up his boots.
