Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is facing a mid-season headache with both Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara able to decide their futures in January.
Both players see their existing contracts expire next summer, but have the chance to agree a move in the winter trade window. This is because they are allowed to speak to clubs outside the UK about signing a pre-contract deal up to six months before an earlier date. The deal expires.
This rule was implemented 28 years ago as part of the famous 1995 Bosman resolution on the freedom of movement of professional footballers. Liverpool are among the Premier League teams affected, and Klopp has to make a decision on any of the players, as well as the backs. Above is goalkeeper Adrian – striker of the January window.
Matip underwent successful surgery for an ACL injury suffered in a 4-3 win over Fulham earlier this month. No return date has been set for the experienced centre-back, but there are fears that Matip has already played his last game for the club.
Asked about Matip’s scenario after his injury, Klopp said: “I’m pretty sure the club will show their elegance however they want to. I’m pretty sure the club has already told Joel that whatever happens while he’s injured, no matter what. “”Now we have to make decisions together with Joel about what it’s going to be like after that. “
Asked if that means Matip will get a new contract, Klopp replied: “I would say it’s still not my decision at the end of the day. I can’t sign the paper.
As for Thiago, he has not played for the Reds since the end of April after undergoing surgery for a hip problem. The Spaniard has missed the final six Premier League games of the 2022/23 campaign and remains sidelined, with Klopp hoping to be back in action in the new year.
Speaking on Nov. 3, Klopp said of Thiago: “It’s a work in progress and we can’t put pressure on that either. We hope he comes back, and I’d say probably early in the new year. It’s now. So November would mean 4 weeks.
“I’d say it’s probably a realistic thing to check out and to be honest, I’m looking forward to getting back to it. The player he is is simply exceptional. I understand you’re asking, but there’s nothing we can have a week from here. Update of the week, as it may not replace much at this time. “
If Thiago returns at the beginning of January, it will increase his chances of getting a transfer and signing a pre-contract deal when his contract expires. Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce were interested in a move for Thiago this summer, while Saudi Arabian clubs were also interested. Watching.
The new 2023 version of an iconic LFC kit from the 1995/96 season features a team collar with a digital-effect remedy that combines shades of green, described as Sparkle Green, Poison Green and Pine Green. It will be used during Reds games on the road. 2023/2024 campaign.
Meanwhile, Adrian signed a new one-year contract last summer to stay at the club until June 2024, and it remains to be seen whether Klopp will offer him a new contract. The former West Ham goalkeeper has not played for Liverpool. this season and lately he’s the third choice.
As things stand, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will enter the final year of their contracts at Anfield when Matip, Thiago and Adrian manage to finalise their contracts.
