Jurgen Klopp has turned down the opportunity to sign a foreign manager after a wonderful United States coach.
Klopp, who left Liverpool at the end of last season, approached via the United States following the sacking of Gregg Berhalter.
Berhalter did not return to the national team position until 2023, but he said goodbye to the position after América suffered a disappointing exit from the hosting phase of the Copa América.
“I want to thank Gregg for his hard work and determination toward U. S. soccer and our men’s national team,” U. S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone said in announcing Berhalter’s departure.
“We are now focused on working with our game director Matt Crocker and leveraging his experience at the highest levels of the game to find the right player to lead the USMNT into a new era of good fortune on the field. “
Seeking a high-profile appointment as they prepare to co-host the 2026 World Cup with Mexico and Canada, U. S. officials have reached out to Klopp about the option of taking over the role.
However, The Athletic has now reported that the German has turned down the opportunity to start formal talks about the role.
Klopp spent nine years at Anfield and underlined the need to break control when announcing his surprise departure at the start of the year.
“I love everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our fans, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything,” he said in January.
“But the fact that I still make this resolution means that I am convinced that this is the one I have to take.
“It’s because I lack energy. I don’t have any disorder now, obviously, I already knew it for longer than I announced at any time, but now I’m completely fine.
“I know I can’t do this task over and over again. “
