Jurgen Klopp said Liverpool were still limited through monetary restrictions on the moving market, and mentioned Chelsea as an example of a team that obviously is not.
Premier League champions hired Greek defender Kostas Tsimikas this summer, the deal was funded almost entirely by selling Dejan Lovren to Zenit St. Petersburg.
The Reds remain connected to a resolution through Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcántara, with resources in Germany saying that a movement abroad spain is imminent, but they have made it transparent that they will spend a lot as a result of monetary uncertainty caused by the coronavirus crisis.
Chelsea, for their part, have been free to spend this summer, bringing Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell, with movements by Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz also mentioned.
Werner had been closely related to Liverpool, but Klopp said the Reds should not spend without serious attention to the ramifications.
Asked about Thiago via Servus TV, he said: “There are many attractive players, but if we are attracted to it, I can’t say it right now.
“Because of COVID-19, you have to think five times about what you can and can’t do.
“We will have to pay attention to the monetary aspect. We don’t know how much cash he’ll get.
“No one knows, but it turns out that other groups have a more positive view of the future. . . if you look at Chelsea, for example [laughs].
“But I am very satisfied with my team right now. If something similar happens, we have to see. “
After attending their camp in Austria, the Reds are now back in England as Community Shield striker opposite Arsenal in Wembey on Saturday.
