Juventus fail to negotiate contract with key midfielder

Juventus seem to be struggling to sign a new contract with Weston McKennie.

The American star largely failed to impress in his first two-and-a-half years at the club, leading to him being loaned out to Leeds United in January 2023.

But when he returned to the club last summer, the 25-year-old became a reinvigorated player.

While the original plan was to find him a new home, the midfielder managed to curry favour with Max Allegri in pre-season and has now carved out a vital role in the coach’s tactical set-up.

However, the Texan’s contract remains a fear for the club.

With its contract expiring in June 2025, the controller will have to sell it for a low price this summer or threaten to squander it a year later.

Therefore, the Juventus hierarchy is keen to reach a renewal agreement with McKennie and his entourage.

But according to Tuttosport JuventusNews24, the negotiations did not go as smoothly as the club’s leaders would have hoped.

As he explains, the USMNT has shown remarkable progress this season and is applying for a new contract that reflects his growing importance to the cause.

In other words, McKennie would be in favor of a hefty pay raise.

Thus, the Turin newspaper claims that the two sides have not made significant progress in contract negotiations.

This season, McKennie has made 28 appearances in all competitions. Although he has yet to open his scoring account, the American contributed assists.
