This comes after ECA president Nasser Al-Khelaifi opened the door for the team’s return.
COPENHAGEN: Juventus are interested in joining the European Club Association (ECA), the Italian side announced on Thursday, after ECA president Nasser Al-Khelaifi opened the door for his return.
Al-Khelaifi on Thursday that the ECA would welcome Juventus after the club indicated it would withdraw from the European Super League project.
The ECA represents more than 440 clubs from across the continent and is governed by the big teams, with nine of the top 12 players interested in the planned breakaway Super League.
Juventus, however, have stated that he will not return.
“Juventus FC is considering the option of joining the ECA at this time,” the club’s press service told Reuters in an email.
Juve, which along with Real Madrid and Barcelona did not register with the ECA after being expelled in 2021, said in July that it had begun the process to get off the ground from the Super League project.
“If they stop what they are trying to fight for, which I think is a stupid project, they are always most welcome,” Al-Khelaifi told reporters after an ECA board meeting in Copenhagen on Thursday.
“I talked to the owner and he called me and I think they need to come back. They are welcome,” Al-Khelaifi said.
Al-Khelaifi, who is also president of French champions Paris Saint-Germain, took over the ECA presidency when former Juventus president Andrea Agnelli, who had subsidized the concept of a European Super League, resigned in 2021.
Agnelli and the Juve board resigned in November of the year.
