Juventus will take a few days to make plans for next season and “assess everything,” the club’s president, Andrea Agnelli, said after his exit from the Champions League was more strained by coach Maurizio Sarri.
Agnelli said striker Cristiano Ronaldo would surely stay for next season, but did not comment directly on Sarri’s future.
Juventus were eliminated by the away goal rule after their 16th team against Olympique Lyonnais finished 2-2 overall after their 2–1 win over Ligue 1 on Friday.
Sarri, 61, has been on the list for a season and has been widely criticized by the Italian media when he took Juventus to a ninth consecutive Serie A name last month.
“The effects of the season are notoriously bittersweet,” Agnelli told Sky Sport Italia. “It’s been a very complicated season, we’ve written a page with the ninth name and especially with a coach who started in the amateur leagues to succeed at the highest point.
“The Champions League is an obvious sadness for us players and fans,” he added. “It’ll take a few days to think it all out, evaluate everything and talk about how to move forward for next season.”
Despite their national dominance, Juventus have won the Champions League trophy since 1996.
“The Champions League was a dream for us, but now it has a goal,” Agnelli said.
He convinced that Ronaldo, 35, whom he described as the most productive player in The history of the Champions League, would remain for the third and final year of his contract. “It’s a major part of Juventus,” Agnelli said.
