The sixth summer signing of offensive midfielder Frank Lampard, 21, on Friday night after Chelsea signed a 71 million-pound contract with Leverkusen for his signing.
He followed Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr to the gates of Stamford Bridge, with the Blues appearing in monetary strength following their ban on two-window plays.
Germany has given Havertz permission to leave his education camp in Stuttgart to finish his move to Chelsea this week and the young man is expected to join Joachim Low’s team in time for his League of Nations clash with Switzerland on Sunday.
However, Germany’s head coach has since shown that Havertz will play no role in Basel and that the midfielder has worked in his fitness in Chelsea’s field of education.
Havertz took part in the solo exercises in Cobham on Saturday and the German was all smiles even though it all ended with the uncertainty surrounding his future.
Havertz will most likely now stay in West London as Chelsea accentuate their preparations for the new Premier League crusade that kicks off in Brighton on 14 September.
In his first interview as a Chelsea player, Havertz defined his ambitions to win primary trophies with the club and revealed Lampard’s role in his move to Stamford Bridge.
“Of course it had a big effect on my resolution because I enjoyed it as a player and watched it very often,” Havertz told Chelsea’s official website.
“I think I can also be informed of him as a coach and I think he’s a very humble person.
“He’s a wonderful guy and I can’t wait to play with him and be informed of him.”
When asked what he liked about Lampard as a player, Havertz said, “I liked that he was very offensive like me and enjoyed scoring goals.
“I also like to score goals, so it will help me a lot in my position and also in the things that I can improve.
“I look forward to running with him.”
