Kawann Short plans to ‘strengthen and lead vocally’ as the oldest Defender of the Panthers

The Panthers’ defensive version of Kawann Short last played the week of the 2019 season, and the Panthers team he returned to at education camp is very different from that.

Luke Kuechly, Mario Addison, James Bradberry and Vernon Butler left the defense and stars Cam Newton and Greg Olsen went on the offensive. All of those adjustments make Short the returning team captain and the oldest member of the defense, making him the ideal team for first-round defensive-line coach Derrick Brown.

“I’m the kind of person looking to lead by example, and now in this eighth season and being a veteran here now, I have to step forward and lead the voice,” Short said, through the team’s website. “So just by showing up Derrick and all those guys, what I’ve done to get in position, and what they can do to help me, what I can do to help them, we just have to paint together.”

Short broke the rotator cuff last week and felt that surgical correction of this injury was an “impressive success,” so the most productive situation for next season is that it will be able to produce in the box while helping prepare for the future. defense leader out of it.
