Kwon showed why Celtic paid £1 million for him in a very good display at St Mirren on Easter Road.
The Buddies had buried the HIbs at halftime, taking a 3-0 lead that could have been bigger when Nick Montgomery’s hapless Hibees were booed at halftime and then returned to the park when they reappeared for the second half. The Saints didn’t add anything to their tally, however, Stephen Robinson was extremely happy with what his players gave him during a dominant 90 minutes.
None more so than the Korean loanee. Kwon became the forgotten man of Parkhead after arriving in the summer. He wasn’t seen after a ropey pre-season friendly display against Atheltic. He then popped up on loan in Paisley and while his leaked initiation song performance may have been questionable, his performances haven’t been as far as Robinson in concerned,
“Kwon is very old,” he said. You don’t pay a million pounds for players and they don’t have quality. Now it’s game time for him. He’s taken over and I feel like he’s going to get better. It’s his most productive performance so far, he understands what we want and gives us real composure on the ball. But as his fitness improves, I think it will get better. We made the resolution to pass with three absolute defenders (in a 3-4-3 formation) in Alex Gogic, Marcus Fraser and James Bolton, so you want your quality on the ball to come from your two midboxers. box (Kwon and Boyd-Munce).
“I thought they were dominating the game. They’re technically talented, but I think they’ve also done well in the other side of the game.
“They were the catalyst for everything we did. They were a massive part of that team performance. We should have won by more, I don’t think Zach Hemming had a save to make. And that’s real credit to the players because Hibs are a good side.”
