Washington football quarterback Kyle Allen was reportedly given medical permission to return to practice wednesday after suffering an arm injury that led him to leave Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the last quarter.
JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reported the update and noted that Allen, who was also examined for a concussion in the Week Five clash with L. A. , is expected to regain control of Alex Smith’s offensive for Sunday’s game opposed to the New York Giants.
Allen made his first start to the season after replacing Dwayne Haskins Jr. in the most sensible depth chart.
The 24-year-old University of Houston product completed nine out of thirteen attempts at touchdowns or 74-yard interceptions prior to the injury, and added a seven-yard score on the ground.
Washington head coach Ron Rivera showed Monday that Allen will remain the starter if he is healthy.
“We had an intelligent verbal exchange about it. I said, ‘Hey, as long as you feel smart,’ I know he’s pretty sore, he’s going to be even sore today, but as long as you feel smart and we’re in a position to ride on Wednesday, that’s our way out,” Rivera told reporters.
Smith’s appearance at Sunday’s game marked a milestone in his recovery from a serious leg injury sustained at a November 2018 assembly with the Houston Texans.
In February, former San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs starter told ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap that he was “very lucky to be alive” after the headaches were cured of the injury.
“There’s enough to stop by and play there. . . Knowing that, yes, failure is a possibility . . . I have to turn out I can go back and play as a quarterback in the NFL, and if I can do it. That would be wonderful and you’ll understand, ” said Smith, 36, to Schaap.
