Kylian Mbappe: Paris St-Germain striker says he hasn't done anything about the future

Paris St-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe says he has made up his mind about his future.

The 25-year-old French captain’s contract with the Ligue 1 champions expires today and is closely linked to his move to Real Madrid.

Mbappe told PSG in June that he would not exercise an option for 12 months on his contract.

“First of all, I’m very, very, very motivated for this year. It’s very important,” said Mbappe.

Speaking after scoring for PSG in the 2-0 win over Toulouse to win the French Champions Trophy, he added: “Like I said, we have titles to aim for and we’ve already won one, so it’s done. After that, no, I haven’t made up my mind yet.

“But anyway, with the agreement I made with the president [Nasser Al-Khelaifi] this summer, it doesn’t matter what he decides.

“We have managed to protect all parties and maintain the club’s composure for the difficult situations ahead, which remains the most important thing. So let’s say it’s secondary.

Mbappé joined PSG in 2017, first on loan from Monaco before a €180m (£165. 7m) transfer.

He was willing to leave with a flexible move at the end of the 2021-22 season, but ultimately signed a two-year contract extension, with the option for one more year.

However, after Mbappé told PSG that he would not accept the additional 12 months of the deal, he did not decide on his pre-season excursion to Japan this summer.

He then refused to meet representatives of the Saudi group Al-Hilal, who made him a record offer of £259 million.

The striker later returned to the first team after talks that PSG described as “very constructive and positive”.

Mbappe turned down a move to Real Madrid when he accepted his existing deal with PSG in May 2022, but this time he did not make a decision on his expired plans.

He added: “I think it expired in May 2022 because I didn’t find out until May.

“If I know what I have to do, why stay there?It just doesn’t make sense.

Meanwhile, Barcelona coach Xavi has said that players like Mbappe cannot succeed at the Catalan club due to their monetary situation.

“I have to manage the players I have, because at the moment we can’t think about that type of signing,” Xavi said.

“Unfortunately, we are not in a privileged situation economically to do that. I am left with the players I have, and with those players we have to win.”
