Kylian Mbappe will accept a pay cut to join Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, a move already described as “the most expensive move in history”.
The France international, who has already announced to PSG that he will leave the club at the end of this season, will be a Real player on July 1.
Real are interested in the 25-year-old on a long-term basis and are in a position to make him the highest-paid player in their history, albeit with a lower salary than he earns at PSG, where his salary is worth £171m. with year.
Real Madrid are still negotiating the final points of Mbappe’s contract, the terms of which have yet to be agreed.
“This will be the most flexible move ever,” said Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports.
“The money that Real Madrid would have paid as payment for the transfer, will necessarily be paid to the player. He will get a huge payout for his signing; there are reports in Spain that this could exceed £100 million. “
PSG rejected a £188 million (€220 million) offer for Mbappe from Real Madrid in August 2021. The striker then opted to sign a new three-year contract with the Ligue 1 club.
It looked like Mbappe was going to sign for Real in May 2022 until he made a dramatic 180-degree turn and signed a new two-year contract with PSG, prompting La Liga to file a complaint with UEFA over the French club’s failure to comply with FFP rules.
But his relationship with PSG deteriorated after Mbappé informed the club that he would not renew his contract until the summer of 2025, meaning he would be a free agent in 2024.
Mbappe was ruled out and not included in the club’s pre-season excursion after rejecting Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal for a record payment of £259 million.
However, there was some other twist on the eve of the new season when Mbappe was reinstated.
Mbappe scored 244 goals and produced 93 assists in 291 appearances for PSG and won Ligue 1 titles.
Kaveh Solhekol, chief reporter at Sky Sports News:
“Real Madrid have been signing Mbappe for about seven years. They’ll get it this summer.
“His entourage has been talking to Real Madrid for 3 or 4 weeks to see if an agreement can be reached. It’s confusing because of the numbers at stake.
“He will be the highest-paid player in Real Madrid’s history, but he will have to accept a pay cut. The amount he earns at PSG is phenomenal.
“What Real Madrid will try to do is make sure that he is the best paid in the country and, at the same time, that he adapts to his salary structure. They will make up for it by giving you great loyalty bonuses and hiring commissions. We’re willing to do that because they’re giving you a flexible transfer.
“The figure we’re talking about is over £100 million. If you hit the jackpot, you will win less than at PSG.
“I don’t think there’s the slightest chance that it’s happening anywhere else at Real. No other club is actively looking to sign him. And there’s no indication that he needs to move anywhere other than Real Madrid. “
Mbappe’s departure will be the next step in PSG’s plan to break out of the Galacticos’ individualistic era, favoring instead a younger, collectively-focused team. That’s when Neymar, Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos and Marco Verratti were all allowed to leave.
Mbappe’s departure will cause the club to lose budget to update their star player and it is understood that there are already plans to make several signings this summer.
Warren Zaire-Emery, 17, and Bradley Barcola, 21, kicked off the new project for PSG, which boasts the youngest team in the Champions League this season. Xavi Simons, 20, on loan at RB Leipzig, is also considered the key player. to the future of PSG.
PSG are expected to offer renewals to Simons and Zaire-Emery, while Barcola signed from Lyon on a five-year contract this summer.
