Lampard identifies key commandos Chelsea players took against Southampton

Chelsea hosted Southampton on Saturday afternoon at 3pm.

The Blues faced off after a 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.

However, with the absence of Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy, Chelsea’s baseline seemed fragile.

Londoners took a 2-0 lead in the one-hour part, thanks to Timo Werner’s double.

However, a dubious defence of the hosts, and Kepa in particular, allowed Southampton to tie the match with only an hour to play.

Kai Havertz sent Chelsea back to the front a few minutes later, when Frank Lampard’s men seemed ready to retain all three points.

However, in the extra time, Jannik Vestergaard to store some of the loot for visitors.

Saturday’s result marked the moment Chelsea conceded three goals in a singles game this season, the first of which, of course, came against newly promoted West Brom.

Such a mediocre defence obviously cannot continue if Chelsea hopes to appoint contenders.

In assessing the crash in Southampton, Frank Lampard did not directly claim that his team was deficient in defence.

However, the Englishman was quick to point out that the blues stars, at least at the end of the match, had not followed his orders well.

Lampard says he begged his players in the latter stages of the setting to spend more time and play “brave” football.

Chelsea stars, however, did not, as Lampard noted this inability to bring his tactics into force as his greatest shock-related sadness:

“I didn’t need to play brave football in the final moments of the game.

“It’s my message to them that I was looking for them to spend more time and break the press. I don’t think the players did enough.

“We’ve tried to play too much and some of that is based on the players they need to watch and play football. It’s something I’m not a big supporter of the upper tension because you can do anything is lose the tension to get the ball in the box and use the players at the other end of the box.

“It’s probably my biggest sadness that the players haven’t taken action. “
