Will Lankshear is hungry to continue and make his mark after signing a new five-year contract.
The 19-year-old was in prolific form in a memorable 2023/24 season for our Under-21s, finishing as Premier League 2’s top scorer with 23 goals in a campaign that ended with a brace in the play-off final. We will win the name of the championship in May.
With his brace in the 3-1 win over Sunderland at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, taking his tally to 32 in all competitions last season, the striker is now keen to continue his goalscoring form and take his game to the next level.
“This is a very proud moment for me, my circle of family and everyone involved,” Will said after committing to the club. “I just have to thank them and everyone who worked with me.
“I’m determined to work hard and try to move on now and make a decision for myself. I need to try to get into the first team and score as many goals as possible, which is the most productive thing I can do. “can do as a player. The scorer. “
Claiming the PL2 Player of the Month award for January (having been shortlisted for that award 3 times), Will was named PL2 Player of the Season after leading the line so well.
Having triumphed over a lengthy injury absence in a difficult first season following his move from Sheffield United in 2022, the personal accolade was just a compliment not only for his goalscoring exploits but also for the hard work put in to come back stronger. and they figure in almost each and every one of the developments. Team matches last season.
What was the secret of success? Hard work, recommendations from under-21 coach Wayne Burnett and staff, as well as a sense of unity within the playing group, revealed the centre-forward.
“I have to thank all the staff who worked with me,” he said. “I was out for a long time and did some smart rehabilitation with the physiotherapists, which put me in a smart position for last year and it was a wonderful season.
“It’s about working hard with the staff, listening to what Wayne tells me, building a smart date with all the guys and enjoying football, which is the most important thing.
“Last season was a lot of fun and I think that showed on the pitch. We all work well in combination and work for each other, it couldn’t have gone better. We all worked hard and winning FP2 was the crowning achievement and we deserved it. “
Among his goalscoring achievements, Will broke the record for the fastest hat-trick ever scored at the stadium (an 11-minute hat-trick against Fleetwood Town in the Premier League Cup in February) and, in doing so, named his football. An idol in the making, it is only fair that the young striker has signed a player who knows everything about the Club’s goalscoring records.
“One of my favourites has been Harry Kane, I enjoyed it,” said the England youth international. “Maybe it’s a bit cliché because he played here and did very well for the club, but I actually admired him.
“I think it’s his complete game. As a striker I also notice that he’s a little bit further back, but I’m fascinated by his combination play, the way he grabs it and moves it, and then how he gets into the box and scores goals. “
