LAZIO striker Ciro Immobile was “physically and verbally abused” in front of his wife and four-year-old son outside a school on Friday, according to reports.
The incident reportedly occurred outdoors at the construction site of the footballer’s son’s school.
According to journalist Zach Lowy, Immobile is a legal action.
His firm also claimed that “the Italian press attacked this attack by spreading false and malicious rumors that he played a key role in the dismissal of Maurizio Sarri. “
Lazio released a statement on Friday night when they addressed the incident involving their captain.
It read: “The entire SS Lazio expresses its full solidarity with its captain Ciro Immobile and his circle of relatives for the disturbing and unacceptable attacks suffered in recent days.
“Sport, and consequently its moral value, will have to remain so: any act of verbal or physical violence must be condemned unanimously, firmly and without justification. “
But the club’s president, Claudio Lotito, made a strange gesture to the media.
He said: “It occurs to me every day, I’ve been living under surveillance for 20 years. Daily death threats against me and my family.
“What’s the issue? I’m the president of a company with 8,000 employees, but I don’t make that much noise, period. And that’s all I’ll say. “
Former Chelsea Sarri, 65, resigned as Lazio coach on Wednesday.
He spent almost three years at the club, leading them to second place in Serie A last season, their result since 2000, when they won the title.
But defeats in six matches in all competitions ended Sarri’s reign.
They languish in ninth place in the Serie A standings, seven places off the European standings.
Lazio were also knocked out of the Champions League via Bayern Munich last week, losing 3-1 on aggregate from their 16 matches.
Immobile, who won the European Championship with Italy in 2021, has been with Lazio since 2016, racking up 331 appearances for the club, scoring 206 goals and providing assists.
He is Lazio’s most level-headed goalscorer of all time.
But he has struggled this season, scoring just six goals in 24 Serie A appearances.
