League of Nations: Denayer and Mertens framed in win in Belgium

Belgium opened their League of Nations crusade with a 2-0 win in Denmark on Saturday thanks to goals from Lyon defender Jason Denayer and Napoli midfielder Dries Mertens.

Denayer put Belgium in the lead after 10 minutes with one end at a time from mertens’ corner for his first foreign goal.

Mertens added the purpose of the moment towards the end, catching the loose ball after striker Romelu Lukaku denied a pass from midfielder Thorgan Hazard.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet veered through Belgian goalkeeper.

Belgium receives Iceland on Tuesday.

In the group match, a last-minute penalty from Raheem Sterling helped England beat Iceland 1-0, who missed a penalty.

Gareth Southgate’s England team is in Denmark on Tuesday.
