Ledley King as Jose Mourinho’s assistant at Tottenham

LONDON (AP) – Tottenham appointed former captain Ledley King as assistant coach Jose Mourinho.

The 39-year-old king has spent his 13-year career as a Tottenham player and has been an ambassador for the club since his retirement in 2012.

“He has a great affinity with this football club and enthusiasts appreciate everything he’s achieved as a real Spurs player on and off the pitch,” Mourinho said. “We have developed an intelligent relationship since my arrival, and we look forward to leveraging your enthusiasm and knowledge of the paintings we make with the team.

The former central defender played 323 games for Tottenham and won the League Cup as captain in 2008, the club’s last primary trophy.

King joined Mourinho’s behind-the-scenes position of tactical analyst Ricardo Formosinho, who left the club.

The new season is scheduled to begin in September. Tottenham finished sixth in Mourinho’s first season to qualify for the Europa League.
