Leeds ‘begins exploratory talks’ with former Olympiacos boss as ‘excellent offer’ for manager revealed

Leeds United have opened talks with Al Gharafa boss Pedro Martins about the possibility of him replacing Jesse Marsch, according to reports.

The Yorkshire club sacked Marsch early last week after a 1-0 draw against relegation rivals Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Michael Skubala took note of back-to-back Premier League matches against Manchester United in which Leeds drew and lost one.

And Skubala will now remain in his role as goalkeeper as Leeds continues with their new permanent coach after a series of setbacks.

A reading from yesterday: “Leeds United can see that Michael Skubala will continue to lead the men’s first team for the club’s next matches.

“Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas will follow Michael, along with the backstage team already formed.

“Skubala, Gallardo and Armas had two positive performances last week against Manchester United and will lead this weekend’s Premier League match against Everton at Goodison Park.

Skubala commented, “I enjoyed the party and the team and staff responded well.

“I know I speak for Paco and Chris when I say it’s an honor to be on the sidelines at this club.

“We will continue to work tirelessly to move up the rankings in the short term, while the board focuses on the long-term team. “

One of the coaches who missed was Rayo Vallecano manager Andoni Iraola, but Leeds would not have wanted to pay the buyout clause to start formal talks.

While Leeds keep Skubala in the position until the end of the season, the Spanish Union’s Rayo say the Premier League side could have a clever chance of scoring in Iraola, as Rayo “know it will be very difficult to keep Iraola going” beyond the end of this campaign.

There are two reasons for this: firstly, Leeds have made an “excellent offer” for him and, secondly, his current contract with the La Liga club expires on June 30.

And Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claims Leeds “already has exploratory contacts” with former Olympiacos coach Martins.

Victor Orta and the rest of the Leeds board will “interview other candidates” such as Martins with talks with the Portuguese boss still “at an early stage”.
